Le Conseil scolaire francophone provincial (CSFP) de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador est fier d’annoncer la nomination de Marcella Cormier au poste de Direction Générale de l’Éducation. Sa nomination est effective à partir du 1er juillet 2025.
Mme Cormier est une fière franco-terre-neuvienne originaire de Cap Saint-Georges, T.-N.-L qui a un long parcours avec le CSFP. Comme élève, elle a fréquenté les écoles Notre-Dame-du-Cap, et Sainte-Anne à La Grand’ Terre. Après des études universitaires à l’Université de Moncton, elle a commencé sa carrière au CSFP comme enseignante titulaire du Français langue première au secondaire à l’École Sainte-Anne. Après avoir complété sa maîtrise à l’Université de Sherbrooke, elle est devenue conseillère pédagogique au CSFP, directrice de l’École Sainte-Anne, directrice de l’École des Grands-Vents à Saint-Jean, pour ensuite faire un retour en tant que conseillère pédagogique au siège social avant d’exercer son rôle actuel. L’année dernière, elle accède au poste de Direction Générale Adjointe (Éducation) de façon intérimaire.
Depuis un an, le poste de Direction Générale de l’Éducation était comblé par Peter Smith, qui a annoncé sa retraite anticipée en décembre 2025. Mme Cormier s’étant démarquée dans son poste de Direction Générale Adjointe, et suite à une évaluation formelle de son rendement dans ce poste, le Conseil lui confie le poste supérieur.
Michael Clair, le président du Conseil, est ravi de la nomination de Mme Cormier. « Marcella Cormier est la première Direction Générale de l’Éducation issue des écoles du CSFP, ce dont le Conseil est très fier. Son parcours professionnel l’a bien préparé pour faire face aux multiples défis dont fait face le CSFP. Nous attendons avec impatience de travailler avec elle dans les années qui viennent. »
Mr. Clair remercie également M. Smith pour son leadership et sa diligence durant l’année scolaire qui se termine. M. Smith regagnera son poste permanent de Direction Générale Adjointe (Finances et Administration) jusqu’à sa retraite.
New CSFP Director General of Education
The Conseil scolaire francophone provincial of Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to announce the appointment of Marcella Cormier as Director General of Education. Her appointment will take effect on July 1, 2025.
Ms. Cormier is a proud Franco-Newfoundlander from Cap Saint-Georges, NL, with a long history with the CSFP. As a student, she attended École Notre-Dame-du-Cap and École Sainte-Anne in Mainland. After completing her university studies at the Université de Moncton, she began her career at the CSFP as a high school French first language teacher at École Sainte-Anne. After earning her master’s degree from the Université de Sherbrooke, she served as a Program Specialist at the CSFP, principal of École Sainte-Anne, principal of École des Grands-Vents in St. John’s, and later returned as a Program Specialist at the school board office before taking on her current role. Last year, she was appointed Interim Deputy Director General (Education).
For the past year, the position of Director General of Education was held by Peter Smith, who announced his early retirement effective December 2025. Ms. Cormier distinguished herself in her role as Deputy Director General and, following a formal evaluation of her performance, the Board has entrusted her with the higher position.
Michael Clair, Chair of the Board, is delighted with Ms. Cormier’s appointment. “Marcella Cormier is the first Director General of Education to come from the CSFP school system, which is a source of great pride for the Board. Her professional journey has prepared her well to meet the many challenges the CSFP faces. We look forward to working with her in the years ahead.”
Mr. Clair also extends his thanks to Mr. Smith for his leadership and dedication throughout the past school year. Mr. Smith will return to his permanent role as Deputy Director General (Finance and Administration) until his retirement.
