Dwight Cornect, enseignant du secondaire à l’École Sainte-Anne, prendra sa retraite le 24 juin 2023. On revient sur son parcours au sein du CSFP.
Dwight Cornect est né à La Grand’Terre, Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador. Il a d’abord suivi des études universitaires en art à St. John’s et à Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Il a ensuite décidé de suivre le chemin de l’enseignement, avec un premier stage dans l’Éducation, qui a été une « réelle épiphanie », selon lui.
Il a commencé à enseigner à Toronto, où il est resté pendant 14 ans. C’est en 2009 que les racines de Dwight l’ont rappelé à La Grand’Terre. Il a occupé différents postes, du poste de remplacement à la Direction scolaire, il a toujours eu besoin de changement. C’est ce qu’il apprécie le plus dans le domaine de l’Éducation. Aujourd’hui, il enseigne au secondaire.
De toute son expérience, Dwight retiendra son goût pour l’enseignement auprès des élèves et de son rapport avec eux. Il explique que son plus grand accomplissement est ce rapport positif qu’il a pu instaurer avec tous les défis que ça représente. Il s’agissait, pour lui, de trouver les forces des élèves en acceptant les faiblesses de chacun.e.s. Le plus important pour lui était de s’attacher à voir l’élève comme un individu. Il qualifie les élèves de charmants, et pour la majorité, très motivés. Il rappelle que ces élèves sont chanceux de l’accès à l’enseignement en français dont ils bénéficient.
Après 28 ans de service dans l’Éducation, Dwight ne compte pas s’arrêter là. Il a l’intention de continuer son activité d’enseignement, en tant que suppléant s’il en a l’occasion. Dwight est également un membre engagé de la communauté francophone à Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador. Il fait partie de différentes associations francophones, comme l’ARCO ou Horizon TNL et s’implique également dans les services locaux ou le bénévolat.
Nous lui souhaitons un bon départ et souhaitons lui montrer toute la reconnaissance que nous avons pour son travail et à sa présence au sein du CSFP. Il a fait une grande différence au sein de notre équipe et de notre communauté et pour tout cela, nous lui disons : Merci Dwight !

Dwight Cornect, teacher at École Sainte-Anne, will retire on June 24, 2023. We look back on his career within the CSFP.
Dwight Cornect was born in Mainland, Newfoundland and Labrador. He first studied art at university in St. John’s and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Then, he decided to follow the path of teaching, with a first internship in Education, which was a « real epiphany », according to him.
He began teaching in Toronto, where he remained for 14 years. It was in 2009 that Dwight came back to Mainland. He has held various positions, from replacement to school administration, he has always loved change. This is what he appreciates the most in the field of Education.
From all his experience, Dwight will remember his taste for teaching students and his relationship with them. He explains that his greatest accomplishment is this positive relationship he has been able to establish with all the challenges that this presents. For him, it was a question of finding the strengths of the students by accepting the weaknesses of each one. The most important thing for him was to focus on seeing the student as an individual. He qualifies CSFP students as charming, and for the majority, very motivated. He reminds us that these students are lucky to have access to education in French.
After 28 years of service in Education, Dwight does not intend to stop there. He intends to continue his teaching activity, as a substitute if he has the opportunity. Dwight is also an engaged member of the Francophone community in Newfoundland and Labrador. He is part of various Francophone associations, such as ARCO or Horizon TNL and is also involved in local services or volunteering.
We wish him a happy retirement and wish to show him all the gratitude we have for his work and his presence within the CSFP. He has made a big difference to our team and our community and for all that we say : Thank you Dwight!
